Fall 2013 Service Project: GPHC Food Pantry

12 Nov

This semester we are supporting the Greater Park Hill Community (GPHC) Food Pantry, which is located in the heart of Park Hill at 28th and Fairfax.  The GPHC Food Pantry relies on volunteers to keep the Pantry stocked, clean, and running smoothly. MomTime will offer volunteer hours and we will also adopt two families for Christmas.

You can read more about the GPHC Food Pantry’s work and clients in this article: http://greaterparkhill.org/2013/04/01/a-well-stocked-pantry-at-park-hills-service/

MomTime’s objectives for this service project are as follows:
First: we will be adopting a couple of families this year. Please help us with bringing Christmas to 2 families designated by the GPHC Food Pantry, by selecting one gift item from our angel tree.
Second: we will have the opportunity to volunteer with our kids. We were able to find a couple of dates, so people could go in with their children and help fill up boxes of Thanksgiving food for families in need in the Greater Park Hill area.  See dates below.
Third: we will bring our donations of used or new books to the last meeting (Dec. 6).
Fourth: we can donate canned food or food towards Thanksgiving boxes, by dropping off items to Molly Jaques’ home in Stapleton or the GPHC Food Pantry directly.  See donations needed below.

Volunteer opportunity dates:

Donations needed:

  • Boxes (to hold meal items for each family)
  • Stuffing
  • Instant potatoes or a bag of real potatoes
  • Canned cranberry or cranberry relish
  • Pie crust
  • Pumpkin pie filling
  • Condensed milk
  • Dinner Rolls
  • Canned green beans, corn, or carrots
  • Toilet paper
  • Canned fruit/vegetables
  • Spam or any kind of canned meat
  • Deodorant

To drop off donations at the GPHC Food Pantry, please visit them Monday-Thursday 10am-2pm, at 2823 Fairfax St., Denver, CO 80207.  Our service project coordinators, Kim and Molly, have been in touch with Robyn at the Food Pantry.  Just let her know you are part of MomTime!  If you prefer to drop off items at Molly’s home in Stapleton, please email her: mollyj89@q.com

You are not obligated to participate in the service project, nor are you required to donate money, but we hope that by providing MomTime members with this opportunity you will choose to help those in need in our neighborhood, especially during the holidays!
