Harvesting Hope: Second Annual Turkey Trot in support of those with Prader Willi Syndrome

7 Oct

MomTime’s 2016 fall service project is well underway.  Organizers of the community race, Harvesting Hope, Julie Foge and Rachael Fischer spoke to MomTime in October to orient and educate the group on a rare syndrome affecting a number of families dear to our group called Prader-Willi Syndrome.  On October 7, we had a brainstorm session led by Julie and Rachael on how to best promote and support the race and its fundraising goals. MomTime joined in the creative and networking efforts.

This worthy fun run will be held for the second time in Stapleton’s Central Park in Northeast Denver. The race is a wonderful opportunity to get the whole family out for some physical activity on a day dedicated to family and feasting, while supporting the good cause.  In its inception year, 2015, despite the single-digit winter weather, the event was a great success.  More than $40,000 was raised for research and the awareness of the rare disease raised.  This year, organizers are hoping for an even bigger level of participation and of course, for better weather.

The entire family is encouraged to come.  Kids are free and each child participant receives a terrific medal.  The course is certified for those serious runners out there.  Also, the prizes and swag bags were a hit!

As it is a very new race, sponsorship possibilities for local businesses and organizations are very affordable and available.  If you know of a business that might enjoy such a prime chance to support Harvesting Hope, please get in touch with Julie Foge at or visit Harvesting Hope 5K or contact MomTime Service Committee, Francine Mugge.  Other ways to help support the cause:  do you know anyone who can donate a service or an item for the grab bag?  (donations are eligible for a favorable tax credit), visit the website and share on your social media, encourage your family to get out and run!  Finally, Harvesting Hope is looking for race day volunteers to help ensure this event is a success!  There are three shifts to choose from. All race day volunteers will receive a free race registration to use or share.
